Happy First Day of Fall! Now, Have You Planned Your Bar Harbor Vacation Yet?Written by Quimby House Inn & Spa
A vacation in Bar Harbor, Maine is a great vacation anytime of the year, but for gorgeous colorful foliage, crisp fall air and to have Acadia National Park practically to yourself, then fall is definitely a great time to visit! At the Quimby House Inn, we enjoy living in downtown Bar Harbor all year round, but with each season comes new reasons to love being in Bar Harbor. The winter brings snow and peace to our town, while spring brings the joys of nature (and the town!) coming back to life. Summer offers warm temperatures and beautiful Bar Harbor weather, while fall in Bar Harbor is a fantastic sight, with gorgeous technicolor trees, fantastic end-of-season deals and a break from the heat and humidity of summer. Fall in Bar Harbor is definitely the place to be!
Beginning the last week of September into the first week of October, the leaves start to change into the golden yellows, bright fiery reds and warm oranges tones that are the hallmark of a New England fall. To see these amazing natural sights, all you have to do is drive up Maine’s I95, and the trees along the interstate will be peppered with brightly colored leaves. Around the second week of October (Columbus Day), you’ll find Bar Harbor is at its peak with foliage changes, and this is definitely something to see.
Another good reason to visit Bar Harbor in the fall is that most the summer visitors have headed back to their homes, and the town clears out some and the locals feel like they can stretch their legs a bit. Acadia National Park empties out, and although the weather is cooler and crisper, hiking the many mountain and carriage trails of the park is still very popular and a great option.
Because Bar Harbor tends to be a seasonal town, a lot of the stores and restaurants start planning on closing their doors for winter, so you (and your wallet) can benefit by the many great deals these places may be offering at the end of the season. Clearance sales on local wares can be found all through downtown Bar Harbor, and there are even some fall themed festivals and activities that these shops and restaurants participate in that not only offer good deals, but put you in the mood for fall!
If you are looking to take a Bar Harbor vacation this fall, be assured this is truly a great time of year to visit.
